SAR 299 Per Person
Most people see Riyadh's desert in the evening. You'll see it the way very few do - in the quiet dark before dawn, as the stars fade out one by one and the dunes begin to glow gold from the east.
The Morning Desert Safari Riyadh from Desert Safari Riyadh is a 4 to 5 hour experience that begins before sunrise and ends by midday. Private 4x4 pickup from your hotel or preferred location, a sunrise watch from the top of a sand dune, dune bashing, a camel farm visit, camel riding, sandboarding, Arabic coffee and dates, and a traditional costume photoshoot - all included at SAR 299 per person.
It is the coolest, quietest, and most photogenic window to experience the Arabian desert. And at SAR 50 less than the evening tour, it is also the best-value desert safari we offer.
Everyone who has done both the morning and the evening safari in Riyadh says the same thing: the morning feels different. Quieter. More personal. The desert belongs to you in a way it does not at any other time of day.
Here is what makes the morning tour distinct:
The sunrise. This is the centrepiece of the morning safari and the moment most guests describe when they tell people about the tour. You climb to the top of a dune in the dark, with the stars still visible overhead. Then, gradually, the eastern horizon changes colour - deep blue to purple to orange to gold - and the sand below starts to glow. It takes about 20 minutes from first light to full sunrise. No photograph does it justice, but you will take a hundred of them regardless.
The temperature. Between May and September, Riyadh's afternoon heat makes any outdoor activity exhausting. The morning tour solves this completely. At 7:00 AM, the desert air is cool and dry. By the time the sun is high enough to be hot, the tour is nearly over. For families with children, summer visitors, and anyone who is heat-sensitive, the morning safari is the only sensible choice between April and October.
The light. Desert photographers know that morning light is the best light. The low angle of the early sun creates long shadows across the dune faces and turns the sand from beige to deep amber. The colours in the morning are softer and more layered than the strong, saturated tones of late afternoon. Every photograph taken in the first two hours after sunrise looks exceptional.
The pace. The morning tour is quieter and less crowded. The activities are the same as the evening - dune bashing, camel ride, sandboarding - but the atmosphere is calmer throughout. It suits families, older travelers, and anyone who prefers to experience things without the energy of a larger evening crowd.
Your driver arrives at your hotel or chosen Riyadh location at 7:00 AM in a private, air-conditioned 4x4. If you want to see the sunrise from the dunes, let our team know at booking - we adjust the pickup time accordingly, typically moving it to 5:30–6:00 AM so you arrive before first light.
The drive to the desert takes approximately 45 minutes. On the way out, the city is still waking up. By the time the dunes appear on either side of the road, the sky is shifting.
Sunrise Watch - Your guide takes the group to a high dune for the sunrise. This is a still, quiet moment that is difficult to describe without sounding like an overstatement. The desert in the first light of morning is genuinely one of the more striking natural sights available within an hour of a major city anywhere in the world. Arabic coffee and tea are served here, along with fresh dates. You will have time to photograph, to sit, and to simply watch.
Dune Bashing - After the sunrise, the adrenaline begins. Your driver takes the 4x4 up and over the dunes in a session that most guests describe as a controlled, high-energy rollercoaster. The morning sand is firmer than in the afternoon heat, which makes the dune bashing feel slightly different - tighter turns, more grip on the climbs. Seatbelts are required throughout.
Camel Farm Visit - A working camel farm where you walk among the animals, feed them, learn about their history in Arabian culture from your guide, and take photographs. The camel farm visit is one of the more relaxed parts of the tour and one of the most popular with children and families.
Camel Riding - After the farm, you mount a camel and move through the desert at the pace Bedouin travellers used for centuries. The elevation and the silence of a camel ride gives the desert a completely different feeling from anything with an engine.
Arabic Coffee, Tea, and Dates - At the camp, you sit with traditional refreshments and a view of the dunes. This is the cultural core of the tour - the hospitality element that has defined Arabian desert life for generations. The coffee is cardamom-spiced, the dates are fresh, and the surroundings are quiet.
Arabic Costume Photoshoot - Traditional Saudi dress is available at the camp for photographs. Thobe, keffiyeh, abaya - the combination of traditional clothing and the desert backdrop produces photographs that are unique to this part of the world.
Sandboarding and Sand Skiing - Equipment is provided. Your guide takes you up a suitable dune and the sliding begins. No experience needed - the morning sand is forgiving and the activity is accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Most guests want several runs.
By 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, you are back in your hotel. Your afternoon is entirely free.
Group booking pricing is available - contact our team for group rates. Minimum 4 persons required. Children are welcome; age-appropriate activity alternatives provided where needed. Quad biking available as a paid add-on on site.
This is the question most guests ask before booking. Both tours cover the same core activities. The difference is the time of day, what the desert looks like, and what is included.
If you are visiting between May and September, the morning tour is the better choice by a wide margin. If you are visiting between October and April and want the full experience with dinner and stargazing, the Evening Desert Safari Riyadh is the more complete option. If you cannot choose, consider doing both on different days - many guests do exactly that.

Yes - it is the best desert safari option during the summer months (May to September). At 7:00 AM, the desert temperature is cool and manageable. The tour is finished before the midday heat arrives.
